WELCOME TO AD HOC PLANTS

   Helleborus  maximum.JPG  ruprechtii.JPG  Rodgersia  Fleur  hirsuitissima.JPG

Green, curious, interesting, rare, dull, blue, blousy, erect, 'common-as-muck' tiny, big, silver, floppy, falcate, red and/or cordate, tricky, slow, simple, fast and bulbous, etc...etc...

Ad Hoc Plants is a small nursery based in Lancashire in the North-west of the UK.

We grow a varied and eclectic range of plants including alpines, bulbs, perennials, shrubs and conifers - many are grown from wild-collected seed from around the world; and others from seeds, cuttings, division, etc, from plants within the gardens; or those donated by friends.

As a result, 'hands-on' experience is gained for all the plants supplied - their likes and dislikes, needs, foibles, phobias, love of Lancashire air ( or otherwise..! ) etc. and from this, I am more than happy to offer positive constructive advice regarding these plants...

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions....

And vice versa,  let me know of your own experience as regards the growing and propagation of the innumerable number of fascinating plant species out there.....and if you happen to have a spare plant or two, so much the better !

CONTACT

The quickest and most reliable point of contact at present is via this site - andrew@adhocplants.com or e-mail at adhoctinpot@talktalk.net

All written communication should be sent to   -   Andrew Lovell,

                                                                                 46 St Helens Road,

                                                                                 Ormskirk,

                                                                                 Lancashire L39 4QR

And coming in a poor third in the contact stakes at present is the phone - 01695 570558....I'm afraid it spends much of the time left on its own - I apologise for this but as the nursery is twelve miles away it means I tend not to hear it ring....!

ORDERS

Secure On-line ordering is available here on this site - via 'Paypal'.

This is very straightforward -

1 - Credit card details, etc, are entered at ' Checkout/Payment Details

2 - Create/Enter your  ' Password '

3 -  Verification of details and ' Bob's your Uncle '

4 -  Confirmation of order and Payment is forwarded to me; and a copy to you.

This system has proved both reliable and efficient.

Availability

I continue to endeavor to keep the site as up to date as possible as regards 'availability' ( but at busy periods though, this can slip down the list of  'jobs to do'...! ) so if you wish to include substitutes or alternative plants for your order, please include them at 'Checkout' - there is a 'Note/Message' option where any substitutes can be listed - these can then be included, if required, when your order is shipped.

Written/postal orders

Please send to the address above; either simply printing a copy of your order from the 'Cart' on this site or compile a written order yourself.

Please remember to include your name, address and a list of substitutes where acceptable.

Payment for Written Orders

Cheque ( ideally in 'Not to Exceed' format ) or Postal Order made payable to 'A.Lovell'

'Cash' sent recorded delivery.

Printed Catalogue

Alternatively, if you would like to receive a copy of the written catalogue please send £1.00 to the address above and I will send one by return. A supplement is also issued in Autumn.

POSTAL / SHIPPING RATES

Growing a wide range of plants in varying sizes makes estimating postal costs tricky...

Ordering via the website seems to require a straightforward set of postal costs to work efficiently - hence, post and packing is charged at a rate according to the final value of the complete order :

                                 £1.00 - £20.00  =  £7.00  ( up to 2Kg )

                               £20.01 - £45.00  =  £9.50  ( up to 8Kg )

                               £45.01 - £70.00  =  £12.50  ( up to 14Kg )

                              £70.00 - £110.00 = £14.50  ( up to 20Kg - maximum weight per parcel )

                                          £110.00 +  =  £18.50

These charges are automatically included in the final total at checkout and equate as near as possible to the price levels in the catalogue.

At present all parcels are despatched on either Monday or Tuesday via Royal Mail Standard Parcel Service. This normally takes 3 or 4 days for delivery and so works perfectly well 99.9 % of the time. If you require or would prefer an alternatve service, e.g. '48 Hours', please let me know and I will notify you of despatch date and cost.

These rates are based solely on Royal Mail charges - I do not charge for packing, etc....this may change in the future - the price of sellotape is creeping up !

OVERSEAS ORDERS

I am more than happy to ship parcels 'Worldwide' - this has proved perfectly straightforward and successful.

Outside Europe

Please add £10.00 per parcel.

A 'Phytosanitery Certificate'  is required for countries outside Europe. This requires the removal of all compost from the plant roots and inspection of the plants at the DEFRA Office. Plants are then wrapped in damp moss and despatcehed as below ( see 'Europe' )

Europe

The most efficient rate is the ' Small Packet ' airmail rate offered by Royal Mail.

This has a weight limit of 2Kg so each parcel sent by this method is restricted to no more than 6 or 7 plants if shipped in pots.

However, many plants, depending on time of year, etc, can be shipped ' Ex' pot - this allows a larger number of plants to be shipped for the same price, e.g. 40+ primulas to Japan

If you have a larger order - more than 15 plants, or are after larger plants, another courier may also be an option. In either case, please contact me first and I can provide an accurate final shipping rate. But as a guide -

                                              2Kg   =   £11.50 ( Small Packet Rate - Airmail Worldwide )

COLLECTION / DELIVERY

Delivery wise, I visit various shows, gardens, nurseries, friends, etc. around the country and where possible, I am happy to deliver or detour ( within reason ! ) and drop off an order if this is convenient.

Orders can also be collected from the nursery but unfortunately only by prior arrangment.

This is a neccessary evil at present as we are located down a track behind somebody else's property so some advance notification keeps everyone happy. It is also tricky to find - I will supply a map on request - and 'facilities' are limited...
