Dramatic black and white pouched flowers make this one of the show-stoppers of the genus. Though not too tricky, given a shady, moist spot with plenty of peat and composted bark and sand, I find it slower than many other species.
A creeping Chinese woodlander, happy in a loose, humus-rich soil ( added bark, sand and/or fine grit ) where it will gently meander and in Spring, the new, bright green, heart-shaped leaves unravel along with the classy, hanging red cups with creamy-white interiors.
A creeping species with heart-shaped green leaves emerging in Spring and dark brown, pouched flowers, opening from pale buds.
A dramatic foliage plant amongst other things, with dark green leaves irregularly mottled with silver, grey and blue markings but even these are superceeded by the clumps of large black and white, velveteen flowers which form at soil-level. Stunning.
Asarum naniflorum 'Eco Decor' 9cm...£4.00
A new and small form, making congested clumps of rounded dark green, slightly leathery leaves and 'cute' tubby, pouched flowers of brown, speckled cream and with a darker interior. Perfect for a trough.
Asarum sakiawanum 1ltr...£8.50
Asarum sieboldii 1ltr...£5.50
Asarum splendens 1ltr...£5.50
Another strangely attractive species, ideal for a sheltered spot in moisture-retentive soil. The slightly silver-glazed, green leaves are produced in strong clumps and beneath these are held the rough, purple-black, chalice-like flowers.
