Given a warm, well drained position this has proved hardy in the UK. Makes very large tubers in time and has large, dark green leaves marked with varying patternation and big, pink flowers in Autum.
Cyclamen balearicum 7cm...£2.50
Again, if planted in gritty soil or raised bed where it won't have to spend the Winter sat in waterlogged soil this is perfectly hardy ( NB It also doesn't appreciate being overheated in Summer.) Small, dark green leaflets on wispy stems and delicate, narrow white flowers with faint grey delineations in Spring.
Silvered leaves and pure white flowers with the faintest hint of maroon around the nose.
This is perhaps best grown in a cold greenhouse ( or on a windowsill ) where the delicate fragrance of the white, red-nosed flowers can also be appreciated. These appear in late Autumn before the next seasons grey-marbled, matt-green leaves emerge.
