As above but different - foliage pale glaucous blue and flowers a lovely shade of pale salmon.

dn_arpadianus Dianthus arpadianus var. pumilus          9cm...£2.50

This makes a fine cushion of glorious green, spiky foliage and grows very tight and compact when planted in a sunny rock garden. Attractive yellowish rose flowers.

Dianthus 'Berlin Snow'          9cm...£2.50

An attractive combination of bright white flowers over a flat, spiky deep green cushion of foliage. Enjoys sun in a well-drained spot.

tn_boydii Dianthus 'Boydii'          9cm...£2.50

A D.alpinus hybrid with similar linear, mid-green leaves making a three-inch cushion and lovely frilled, pink flowers with a distinct central zone.

Dianthus brevicaulis          sold out

An excellent species from Turkey, forming a compact cushion with pale green, short needle-like foliage and equally compact bright purple-pink flowers. Choice.

Dianthus caespitosa         9cm...£3.00

Grown from African seed but has proved relatively hardy thus far; which is good, as the flowers are stunning - large satin pink, flat-faced, full-petalled saucers on wiry four-inch stems. These emerge quite late in the season ( in June/July ) from a loose, spiky glaucous cushion and look wonderful in a dry, sunny spot.

dn_conwy Dianthus 'Conwy Silver'         7cm...£2.50

A very small, dense mound-forming Dianthus with glaucous silver cushions covered with good-sized, rich magenta-pink flowers. An excellent form.

dn_drenovskianus Dianthus drenowskianus         7cm...£3.00

A very tight, low-growing cushion of spiky, linear foliage beneath quite large, mid-pink flowers.

dn_fenbow Dianthus 'Fenbow Nutmeg Clove'           9cm...£2.50

An old fashioned garden Carnation with large, semi-double crimson flowers and a sultry perfume; all on a tidy mound of spiky silver, blue-grey foliage. First class plant for the front of a sunny border.

Dianthus freynii          1ltr...£2.75

A flat mat of narrow grey-green leaves, retaining its tight Balkans character when grown in good light and also producing a stunning display of its soft pink flowers on short stems.

Dianthus haematocalyx s.sp pindicola         9cm...£2.50

( syn D. alpinus ) A fine treasure for the rock garden, trough or pot. Very spiky silver foliage on a dense mound and very many purple-pink flowers on short two-inch stems. Quickly makes a good specimen and contrasts well with all other green-foliaged plants.

tn_haem Dianthus haematocalyx s.sp pindicola 'Alba'          7cm...£3.00

These are cuttings from a white-flowered form which arose from my own seed. Ice-white flowers on short stems over blue-grey foliage.

dn_eileen Dianthus microlepis 'Eileen Lever'          7cm...£2.50

A stunning form for flower-power and richness of colour. Numerous large purple-red flowers on very short stems and a very blue-leaved spiky cushion to set them off perfectly. Happy in full sun on a scree, rockery, trough or raised bed.

dn_monspessulanus1.jpg Dianthus monspessulanus s.sp sternbergii          9cm...£2.25

A charming, creeping Dianthus from the Eastern Alps. Small linear, plum-brown foliage gently spreads over and down rock, trough or wall and in mid-Summer, hundreds of red-purple flowers on short stems. Eye-catching.

dn_neglectus Dianthus neglectus         7cm...£2.50

dn_ocschtenicum.jpg Dianthus oshtenicum         sold out

Not your 'run-of-the-mill' Dianthus; having more the appearance of a Silene.with stems spreading underground and emerging to produce small tufts of dark green leaves and deep, bright pink flowers. Very satisfying and attractive.

dn_plumarius Dianthus petraeus s.sp noeanus        1ltr...£2.75

Highly scented, large white flowers over a prickly tufted bun. An excellent form of D.petraeus from Bulgaria.

Dianthus 'Pudsey Prize'         sold out

A startling selection with probably the most silvered foliage of all, in a dense spiky mound and large, bright magenta-pink flowers on short stems.

dn_sammy.jpg Dianthus 'Sammy'        9cm...£2.25

dn_scopularius Dianthus scopularius var perplexans         9cm...£2.50

Dianthus 'Spencer Bickham'          7cm...£2.50

An old hybrid with numerous deep pink flowers above a tight mound of glaucous grey-green, linear foliage. A good Dianthus for the rock garden where it will slowly form a six-inch cushion.

dn_squarrosus.jpg Dianthus squarrosus alpinus          7cm...£2.25
