A very attractive member of this North American genus, forming a steadily increasing clump of delicate two-inch, fresh green leaves and on five-inch stems, white 'shooting stars' with a dark, narrow ring at the base of the filament tube.

Large, deep green elliptical leaves are a distinctive feature of this species and from these arise sturdy, five-inch scapes of four or more, violet flowers with contrasting yellow and white bands.

 Perhaps the most robust species which, when grown in a rich soil, can be more than a foot-and-a-half tall. Large, healthy-looking foliage and, in this form, several large white flowers per stem.
