en_arctic Echinops sphaerocephalus 'Arctic Glow'          2ltr...£2.50

An impressive white 'Globe Thistle' with two-inch rounded heads comprising a multitude of small tubular flowers on three-foot high stems over roughly toothed foliage; never left alone by bees or hover flies

en_tienshanicum Echinops tienshanicum          2ltr...£3.25

A large 'Globe Thistle' with cream spiky flower heads the size of tennis balls - much loved by bees, hover flies and butterflies. Five feet in rich soil.

pininiana.JPG Echium pininana          2ltr...£4.50

Startling tower of thousands of bright blue flowers beloved by bees; makes a large basal rosette of coarse leaves before, in the second year, the six or eight foot flower spike emerges.

en_tuberculatum Echium tuberculatum          2ltr...£3.00

Compact clumps of softly prickly foliage and clusters of purple-red trumpet flowers.

Edraianthus pumilio          7cm...£2.75

Very narrow, silver-green foliage forms congested mounds which in May, can literally disappear beneath quite 'massive', sessile violet-purple bells. Excellent plant for trough, scree or pot.

Eminium albertii        sold out

en_eminium Eminium lehmanii         sold out

en_ephedra EPHEDRA
minima           9cm ... £2.00

Forms an intricate and congested small shrub which will 'flower' in May - small, pale blue-green beads open to reveal sticky ( and presumably mighty attractive to flies ) reproductive organs. Successful pollination ( if you can't train a fly, a paintbrush does just fine ) will guarantee a good crop of the large, bright red drupes.

EPILOBIUM
crassum          9cm ... £3.00

Short congested stems, clothed in fleshy, red-tinged oval leaves, form a gently creeping mat with palest pink flowers in early Summer. An(other) attractive plant form New Zealand.

Epipactis gigantea        1ltr...£5.50

Epipactis
'Lowland Legacy'           1ltr...£12.50

I find this remains relatively dwarf, no more than two-feet in a good, moist soil and with stunning, but demure flowers of greenish yellow, gold and brown-red. Soon forms a good clump of erect sage-green stems.

en_gigant Epipactis gigantea x veratrifolia          2ltr...£12.50

I obtained this plant several years ago before the named forms available now were released comercially; so I am uncertain, at present, of its exact origins. I do know that its a mighty vigorous clone forming stems up to three feet tall in rich, moist conditions and with flowers of green, rusty-red and orange-yellow.

Epipactis palustris 'Popcorn'         sold out

en_castellanum.jpg ERODIUM castellanum           9cm ... £2.50

Green, fuzzy, fern-like leaves form robust clumps and produce, all summer, on six-inch stems bright rose-magenta blooms. Easy in any good soil.

en_corsicum Erodium corsicum           9cm ... £2.75

A mound-forming species with felted, mat-green leaves, distinctly tinged red on the reverse and numerous flowers of pale pink. Sun.

Crinkly, pale green leaves and heads of violet-veined white flowers on six-inch stems.

bourgatii 'Graham Stuart Thomas's Selection'           1ltr... £2.50

Eryngium glaciale            sold out

A fantastically spiny species from stony slopes and screes in Spain and the Atlas Mountains and remaining dwarf in cultivation. Six or eight inches tall with highly cut, spiny silver blue-green foliage and bracts surrounding the silvery white, spiky flower heads.

Eryngium yuccifolium          9cm...£2.50

Euonymous phellomanus
1 ltr ... £3.50

A large deciduous shrub with pale green, obovate leaves on ridiculously corky-winged stems and.....talking of ridiculous, bright pink and red, four-lobed fruits in Autumn..

en_candollei EURYOPS
candollei           1 ltr ... £3.00

From a variable genus comes this, with the appearance of a stiffly, congested low-growing Hebe. A dense twelve-inch mound of small, pale green foliage-clad stems and small yellow flowers...not for drama-lovers unless having a very low-key, melancholic day.

Euryops decumbens          9cm ... £2.50

Delicate stems of almost succulent, dissected pale blue foliage on this prostrate sub-shrub from the Drakensberg Mountains in Lesotho. Narrow-rayed, bright yellow flowers are produced when happy - cool roots and sun to encourage flowers.

en_tysonii Euryops tysonii           sold out

A hardy South African; lush, bright green mound of angular, acuminate leaves on twelve to eighteen inch green stems and late in the season ( August ), numerous bright yellow flowers dangle on fine petioles like twinkling baubles. A pleasant small shrub for the mixed border easily clipped back in Spring to keep in check.
