          HELICHRYSUM                                                                       Asteraceae

tn_albobruneum Helichrysum albobruneum         9cm ... £2.50

Mounds of low-growing felted, grey-blue leaves in large rosettes and curious everlasting flowers with reddish brown centres and a ring of papery white petals. An interesting and attractive species.

tn_helichrysum Helichrysum chionophyllum         9cm...£2.75

Best grown in a sunny spot where it will retain its compact habit with white-silver foliage and bright yellow flowers in late Spring.

Helichrysum frigidum         1 ltr ... £2.50

A completely silvery-blue sub-shrub with soft, twisting foliage in gently erect sprays; in summer, numerous small, silvery-white everlasting flowers appear.

Helichrysum heldreichii         1 ltr ... £2.25

Given a sunny spot this makes a dense and compact, dwarf shrub; linear white-silver leaves clad white-felted stems to form an amazing white mound. Clipping back encourages new growth - I have this planted alongside Euryops tysonii and each is clipped back at least once a year to create a lovely white and green ball.

Helichrysum plumeum         7cm ... £2.50

Like a softer, paler Ozothamnus corralloides ( formerly H. corralloides ), with pale cream-green whipcord foliage in dense, upright sprays, the ends of which terminate in curious, compact yellow blooms in summer. Slow growing.

hn_silverstreams.jpg Helichrysum 'Silver Streams'          9cm ... £2.50

Once seen, never forgotten ( 'One Pan Silver', Summer Show South, Guildford 1999 ); it looked amazing and having grown it myself ever since I've also found it remarkably vigorous and tolerant and the decumbent, twisted 'streams' of foliage, phenomenally silver.
