The first time this flowered on the rock garden for me I was smitten; a prostrate mat of pale green stems and small leaves, covered in early Summer by hundreds of royal blue flowers. Ideal for creeping over rocks or the edge of a path in a sunny spot.

(L.elegans x L.campanulatum) Compact, metallic green-blue clumps of short oblong leaves, which are hidden in May beneath the many dense heads of shiny, deep yellow flowers. Startling and ideal for a sunny position in the rock garden or trough.

Clump-forming perennial with ten-inch, upright leafy stems terminating in dense panicles of quite large pale purple flowers. A fine introduction from the Western Caucasus which relishes a sunny spot with its roots in a moisture-retentive loam.

A dwarf flax forming a mat of wiry stems clad in small elliptical blue-glaucous leaves and terminating in 'whirly-gig' flowers of bright yellow. An outstanding plant for a pot or sheltered trough.

Capable of forming a substantial specimen in time; a soft, green mound of tiny needle-like leaves and numerous large, flat dusky-white flowers veined with lilac. A fine ornamental plant for the rock garden.
